LAHAD DATU: Police arrested a 22-year-old foreigner, suspected to be a drug trafficker, and seized more than 50 grams of drugs believed to be Syabu at Kampung Puyut, Jalan Pantai area, here, on Saturday.
District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner of Police Dzulbaharin Ismail said the suspect was nabbed during the Op Tapis by the Narcotic Crime Investigation Division at 10.30pm.
During the operation, the team apprehended the man who was seen behaving suspiciously. The suspect attempted to escape by acting aggressively but successfully detained by the team.
“This led to the discovery of two translucent plastics containing substances, believed to be syabu weighing 51.73 grams and nine aluminium foils from the man.
“The undocumented suspect was taken to Lahad Datu Police Headquarters for further investigation and his urine tested positive for drug abuse,” he said.
Dzulbaharin said the case would be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 for drug trafficking and Section 15(1)(a) of the same act for taking drugs.
He added that the operation reflected Lahad Datu Police Headquarters continuous commitment in combating criminal activities including drugs in this district.
