87 golfers tee off at Tambunan PPD tourney

TAMBUNAN: The Tambunan Golf Club (TNGC) became the centre of attention for golf enthusiasts as it hosted the prestigious Tambunan District Education Office (PPD) Retirement Golf Tournament 2026, last Saturday.

Held in conjunction with the retirement of Tambunan PPD officer, Dr Haison Johudin, the tournament attracted 87 participants, comprising 67 male and 20 female players.

The strong turnout reflected the growing interest in golf among educators, retirees and invited guests who gathered on the greens.

In the Men’s (Nett) category, Richard Madanan emerged as champion with a score of 67 (-5), edging out Adderly Anderson Sabinus, who recorded the same score but finished second based on OCB countback. Antony Andu secured third place with a score of 68.

In the Ladies’ (Nett) category, Sutinah Ubin delivered an impressive performance to claim the title with a score of 72, followed by Caroline Linus (76) and Cannyda Linus (82).

For the Gross category, Rojer James topped the men’s division with a score of 75, ahead of Mohd Imran Pomin (78) and Muhamil Lajim (80).

In the women’s Gross category, Alini Lansing emerged as champion with a score of 88, defeating Claire Michael Junis and Jelisia Suani.

Meanwhile, in the Senior category, Azmi Ahmad claimed the men’s title with a score of 73, while Juliana Kitingan won the women’s title with a score of 83.

The Junior category showcased promising young talent, with Jandoron Felix taking first place with a Nett score of 67.

In the special categories, Geoffery Nicholas and Juhilo Sikul won the EDU category for men and women respectively, while the Rookies category was won by Jaslih Dumin (men) and Rosneh Wasli (women).

The VIP category saw Jairim Jimeleh emerge victorious with a Nett score of 78. The tournament was further enlivened by novelty events, where the Bull’s Eye category was won by seven players: Geoffrey Juanis, Mohd Ayub Jamrin, Adderly Anderson Sabinus and Azmi Ahmad for Hole 9, while Alini Lansing, Mohd Imran Pomin and Azmi Ahmad achieved the feat at Hole 5.

Additionally, Bartholomew Alexander Albert won the Target Pin category, while Mohd Imran Pomin claimed the Nearest to the Line title.

During the closing ceremony, Dr Haison expressed his pride and extended his congratulations to all winners for their outstanding performances. 

He also hoped that similar golf tournaments would continue to be organised in the future to strengthen camaraderie and elevate the sport of golf among department members and the local community.

The event not only served as a platform to test skills but also provided a meaningful occasion to celebrate retirement in a harmonious atmosphere in the Tambunan district.
