Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is closely monitoring the global energy and economic crisis arising from the ongoing conflict in Iran, with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor (

He said the matter was raised during a special audience convened by the Prime Minister last Thursday, where Menteri Besars and Chief Ministers were briefed on the potential impact of the Middle East conflict on Malaysia and the global economy.
Hajiji said Sabah’s electricity generation capacity stands at 1,400 megawatts, with 1,100 megawatts supplied by gas sourced directly from Petronas, which helps shield the state from global energy disruptions.
However, he said about 300 megawatts remains dependent on diesel, making that portion of the supply vulnerable to price fluctuations despite ongoing subsidies.
He added that the Prime Minister has directed civil servants to work from home starting April 15 to conserve energy and reduce government expenditure, and said the situation would continue to be monitored with the possibility of further measures.
