Kota Kinabalu: State Finance Minister Masidi said the State Government is coordinating implementation of the Work From Home (WFH) for its some 20,000 staff ahead of the proposed April 15 date for Federal staff announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, recently.
“Yes, we will follow. The state office is in the process of putting everything in order before we make an official announcement,” he said.
He said the arrangement may involve allowing non-essential services to be done from home on certain days of the week, similar to measures adopted during the Covid-19 pandemic.
On potential misconduct or reduced productivity, Masidi said the system would rely on the integrity of civil servants.
“If an officer does not respect the law or himself, such behaviour can happen whether they work from home or in the office,” he said.
He acknowledged public concerns about accessibility to government officers, noting existing complaints that even now some officials in government departments are difficult to reach.
He said the aim is to manage rising fuel costs, which prompted efforts to reduce travel.
“The priority now is how to manage oil prices. If you drive to the office, you need to use fuel. The government is trying to minimise fuel use,” he said.
