Kota Kinabalu: A total of 65 badminton players from Sabah have been equipped with new sports gear provided by Young, the official sponsor of the Sabah Badminton Association (SBA) in preparation for the upcoming Affin-100Plus Junior Elite Tour (2nd leg) 2026-Group C tournament, scheduled to take place in Terengganu from April 7 to 11.
The ceremonial presentation of the equipment was held on Wednesday and the initiative is part of the Sabah Badminton Association’s ongoing commitment to enhancing badminton development in the State, particularly among young talents who aspire to represent Sabah at the national level.
SBA president Datuk Maijol Mahap, who is also Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, expressed profound gratitude to the sponsors.
“This occasion marked a significant moment for the players. The generous support is aimed at ensuring that the players are well-prepared and equipped for the challenges of the tournament ahead.
“The association greatly appreciates the support provided by Young. This sponsorship not only helps in terms of their preparation but also serves as a catalyst for them to perform with more confidence.”
He also hopes that the players would leverage the opportunities provided to deliver standout performances at the tournament.
The Junior Elite Tour serves as a critical platform in developing young badminton talents across Malaysia. At the first leg held in Kedah, early February, Sabah finished as runners-up with two golds, two silvers and four bronzes.
