Tandek Sports Complex: Project nearing completion

Kota Kinabalu: The long-awaited Tandek Sports Complex in Kota Marudu is nearing completion, as confirmed by Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan. 

During a site visit on Tuesday, the Minister received updates from relevant authorities about the progress of the facility.

“I was informed that the project had reached 99 per cent physical progress. The relevant parties also assured that the complex would be fully completed by the end of May, thus resolving the issue of previous delays for the benefit of the local community,” he said.

The Minister also conducted similar visits to Kota Belud and Tuaran after the Kota Marudu trip.

On the construction of a two-in-one indoor hall and badminton courts at the Kota Belud Sports Complex, he said it is in the final phase and expected to complete next June, while the pavilion construction project at the Tuaran Sports Complex is progressing smoothly and is expected to be completed next September based on the contract. 

The Minister said the visits conducted were aimed to obtain a comprehensive picture of the needs of sports facilities at the grassroots level, in line with the ministry’s efforts in strengthening the development of State sports in an inclusive and high-impact manner.

“These visits reflect the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that the development of sports facilities in Sabah is carried out in an organised, quality manner and meets the needs of the local community.

“The quality of sports facilities is a reflection of the Ministry’s image and must always be at the best level for the use of athletes and the people,” he stressed.

He also said that any additional allocation requirements for upgrading purposes will be examined in detail before being submitted to the Chief Minister and the Ministry of Finance for further consideration.

Meanwhile, also present during his visits to the three districts were State Assemblyman for Tandek Datuk Hendrus Anding, Tempasuk Assemblyman Datuk Arsad Bistari, Pintasan Assemblyman Datuk Fairuz Renddan, Tamparuli Assemblyman Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau and the Ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Mansur Asun and his deputy Adanan @ Adnan Atin.
