Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is targeting over four million tourist arrivals in line with the implementation of the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026).
Musa said the State Government also plans to organise “Visit Sabah Year 2027” as a strategic move to drive and enliven the State’s tourism sector, while emphasising enforcement and safety in tourist areas.
“Continuous monitoring will be enhanced to ensure compliance with existing safety standards and regulations, in addition to improving safety procedures for high-risk tourism activities in accordance with international best practices,” he said.
Musa said under the 13th Malaysia Plan, the tourism sector development will focus on efforts to diversify new tourism products, increase added value based on local culture and environment, as well as community development through the tourism sector.
In addition, efforts to elevate cultural heritage and the creative industry will continue to be strengthened through various initiatives, including the restoration and upgrading of infrastructure, development of new exhibition spaces and support for the local arts, culture and creative industry players.
“These measures not only support cultural tourism but also position local arts and creativity as unique attractions for the State’s tourism sector,” he said.
