KUCHING: Eight Sarawak Bumiputera companies are being prepared for potential listing on Bursa Malaysia, with at least one targeted to go public by year-end.
Deputy Premier Datuk Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the firms were identified in collaboration with agencies including Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera (Teraju) under the Road to IPO programme.
He said the effort is part of broader measures to strengthen the role of small and medium enterprises in the economy.
“Small and medium enterprises are the backbone of the economy,” he said.
“They have significantly contributed to the nation’s economic development and gross domestic product, but many remain small and some are not registered,” he said.
“Because of this, we have launched programmes to help register them,” he said at a press conference after attending the Teraju Aspirasi Outreach Sarawak 2026 programme at TEGAS Digital Village, where he represented Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Awang Tengah, who is also Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment, said the move supports the Sarawak Bumiputera Economic Action Plan 2025.
He said the plan targets at least three Bumiputera companies from the State to be listed by 2030.
