RANAU: The 10-A-side Football Championship organised by Matra Football Club was held with enthusiastic participation from local teams at Padang Patod, Kampung Matan, here, recently.
As early as 8am, the competition field began to be filled with players and supporters who were present to provide support, thus creating a competitive atmosphere and full of sportsmanship throughout the nine-a-side format tournament.
The tournament was organised to uncover new talent among local players as well as strengthen community ties through football.
According to the organisers, the response received was very encouraging with the participation of 10 teams from around the Ranau district and nearby areas who competed healthily.
Among the participating teams were Matra FC A, Matra FC B, RS Team, Bindrow, ESR FT, Kiau Kesatria FC, Ranau Frenz FC, Jaff FT, Munaseli FC and R&J Enterprise.
The competition was conducted using a group league system, giving each team the opportunity to play in several matches before advancing to the next stage.

The highlight of the tournament saw Matra FC B emerge as the champions after displaying consistent and excellent performance throughout the competition, thus taking home a cash prize of RM1,000.
RS Team finished the competition as the runners-up by taking home RM700, while Jaff FT and Bindrow shared third place, each receiving RM450.
Overall, this tournament was seen as successful in achieving the organiser’s objectives in strengthening community sports activities and instilling the spirit of sportsmanship among local youth.
