TONGOD: Construction of the Tongod Sports Complex will be completed after it was left abandoned by the contractor appointed in 2019.

Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said the contract with the company that failed to complete the sports complex has been terminated.

“We want this sports complex completed properly for the benefit of residents here,” he told reporters following a working visit to the Tongod sports complex site and Youth Arena at the Tongod Youth and Sports Office.

Nizam said a high-level meeting at the ministry level with relevant agencies will be held to find solutions to the issue. The implementation period for the State government-funded sports complex construction will also be reviewed.

A suitable contractor will be identified to ensure the project is completed to a satisfactory standard, he added.

Nizam expressed appreciation to Datuk Masiung Banah for raising the sports complex issue in the State Legislative Assembly on behalf of constituents.

Masiung, when speaking to reporters, welcomed the minister’s visit to personally assess the situation.

“As we know, this sports complex facility is highly anticipated by the people here,” he said, expressing hope for a comprehensive solution so the facility can be realised.
