TAWAU: Complaints from residents and road users about poor lighting along Jalan Sin On Tiku at night have been addressed with the ongoing installation of solar street lights in the area.
Sabah DAP Committee member Philip Yap shared that these complaints were raised during last year’s Sabah General Election campaign.
“Residents informed us that a section of the road, located two kilometres from Tiku White House, had very limited lighting. This raised safety concerns for road users, especially at night,” he said.
After the election, Yap promptly submitted a funding application to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) for the installation of solar street lights.
The application was supported by Minister of Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming, who approved the allocation for the project.
Yap said the solar street lights would enhance safety and comfort for both residents and road users in the area at night.
He made these remarks during an inspection of the ongoing installation work.
He also expressed his appreciation to Minister Nga for his continued commitment to addressing public issues and securing allocations for the improvement of basic facilities in Tawau.
Yap emphasised the importance of cooperation between the Federal Government and local leaders to effectively address public concerns and bring better development to the community.
