TAWAU: A 10-foot-six-inch crocodile weighing an estimated 200 kilogrammes was captured after a 10-hour operation at a shrimp farming pond in Jalan Wakuba here on Tuesday.
The Tawau Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) said a team of seven personnel was deployed to the location after receiving an emergency call at 9.05am via the Mers999 line.
Initial information indicated that a trainee discovered the crocodile during an inspection at the shrimp farm.
The pond management subsequently drained the pond to facilitate the capture process, during which several shots were fired by the Wildlife Department before the reptile was subdued and secured.
The operation was completed safely without any injuries to personnel despite lasting 10 hours, and the crocodile was handed over to the department for further action after equipment damage was reported during the capture.
