TAWAU: A 29-year-old motorcyclist died from severe injuries in an accident involving a four-wheel-drive (4WD) near Tawau Airport at 2pm on Sunday.
The maleoil palm plantation worker was pronounced dead in Tawau Hospital.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said police received information about an accident involving a motorcycle and a Toyota Hilux at around 2.30pm, prompting a team to be dispatched to the scene.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the 45-year-old 4WD driver was travelling from Sin On towards the airport when a motorcyclist suddenly emerged from the left side of the road and entered the vehicle’s path. The 4WD driver was unharmed,” he said on Monday.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.
Jasmin advised all road users, especially motorcyclists, to ensure it is safe before exiting junctions or entering main roads to prevent accidents that could endanger themselves and others.
