RANAU: The number of Sabah students eligible to receive the full SPM certificate for 2025 is 34,737 (95.60pc) compared to 32,501 (94.68pc) the previous year – an increase of 2,236 students or 0.92pc.
State Education Director Datuk Haji Raisin Saidin said the achievement based on the State Average Grade (GPN) index overall also shows an increase compared to the previous year.
Announcing the results at SMK Agama Mohamad Ali Ranau, Tuesday, he said three students obtained A+ in all subjects compared to six in 2024.
Those who obtained a combination of A+, A and A- grades are 605 compared to 580 in 2024.
The number who obtained at least a credit or Grade C in all subjects are 6,150 compared to 3,437 previously. Candidates who obtained at least a pass or grade E in all subjects were 14,533.
Among the top achievers were Dyna Farhana binti Sharul of SMK Konven St Cecilia Sandakan, Anis Sofiyyah Ixora binti Anuar (SMK Sandakan, Sandakan), Nurul Afiqah Athirah binti Maksudin (SMK Desa Kencana, Lahad Datu), John Ng Chu Cheng (SMK St Patrick, Lahad Datu), Chin Kai Yi (SMK Shan Tao, KK) and Leong Kai Zhi (SMK St Patrick, Tawau).
The top achievers from Ranau are Eleazar Norbert, Jackle Chung Min Jun, Nicholas Noel Jamil @ Adderly and Sweet Ersa Sobvest (SMK Mat Salleh), Irdina Afifa binti Jaimis (SMK Agama Mohamad Ali), Merlisah Sahirah binti Abdullah and Petty Roger (SMK Bundu Tuhan), Matthew Mark Majin (SMK Lohan), Phillip Leeroy Paulus and Rehttylia Intang (SMK Timbua), Afi Nazhim bin Razalin, Arifah Aliyah binti Ruslin, Hasya Humaira binti Hamirin, Mohamad Helmi bin Jusidin, Muhammad Danish Syahmi bin Suhailin, Nur Izzah Atigah Izna binti Eddmas Nizam and Nurul Syamilah Hanie binti Hamzani (SM Agama Al-Irsyadiah Marakau).
The 2025 exam was implemented in stages, from Nov. 3 to Dec. 23. The number who registered to sit were 41,667 compared to 39,550 previously.
He added that the number of new Category A candidates who registered for at least six subjects in the 2025 SPM examination is 37,036.
Some 699 were absent from all subjects compared to 905 in 2024. Raisin said the decrease in absentees was a positive development. On candidates with Special Education Needs (CBPK), the number who sat was 182.
“Overall, the analysis showed encouraging achievements by candidates. It reflects the effectiveness of the Ministry’s continuous efforts to ensure that the national education system remains quality, inclusive and provides fair opportunities to all candidates throughout the country,” he said.
“In line with the national development aspirations, the Ministry of Education will continue to strengthen the implementation of various education reform initiatives to support the progressive and sustainable development agenda of Madani Malaysia,” he said.
The Ministry of Education, he said, hopes that the announcement of this result will not only inform the examination achievements, but also reflect the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that the national assessment system is implemented with integrity, transparency and trust in line with the Malaysian Education Plan 2026-2035.
