Power theft: Firms, owner charged
The offence under subsection 61(3)(e) of the Electricity Supply Enactment 2024 and punishable under subsection 61(3)(ii) of the same Enactment carries a fine of between RM20,000 and RM1million, or a jail term of up to five years, on conviction.
Kota Kinabalu: Two companies and a company owner were charged with committing offences under the Electricity Supply Enactment, respectively.

Kemas Handal Sdn Bhd and CCV Retail Sdn Bhd, through its respective directors and Mahadi Santa, pleaded not guilty separately to the charges against them.

Kemas Handal Sdn Bhd on the first count, is accused of having fraudulently preventing the meter belonging to Sabah Electricity (SE) from correctly recording the electricity output by disconnecting the blue phase current circuit in the meter which resulted in SE being undercharged and suffering losses. 

The offence allegedly took place at 12.50pm on July 30, 2025 at Jalan Kampung Air 1, Rumah Kedai Kampung Air, here.

Its fall under subsection 61(9) of the Electricity Supply Enactment 2024 and liable to punishment under the same subsection which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000, or a jail term of up to two years, or both.

Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain set Apr 14 this year for pre-trial case management (PTCM) and released the director of the company on bail of RM5,000 in a local surety.

Meanwhile, CCV Retail Sdn Bhd is accused of fraudulently preventing the meter from properly recording the output or consumption of electricity by wrapping the red phase voltage link with colourless adhesive tape and resulting inSE being undercharged and suffering losses. 

The offence allegedly took place at 9.07am on July 30, 2025 at the Pick N Pay Express in Jalan Tugu, Kampung Air, here.

Sessions Court Judge Monica Linsua fixed Apr 10 this year for PTCM and the director was granted bail of RM5,000 in a local surety.

For Mahadi, on the first count, he allegedly fraudulently taken electricity via a bypass directly from the Busbar Isolator Switch Box without going through the meter belonging to SE, into the business premises via the distribution board to the upper floor for office space and rental rooms and to the distribution board on the lower floor to supply electricity to several vending machines which result SE being undercharged and suffering losses. 

The offence allegedly took place at 3pm on July 30, 2025 at the Heritage Trade and Services in Lorong Plaza Utama 1, Alamesra Plaza Utama, Sulaman Coastal Highway, near here.

On the second count, he allegedly installed electrical wiring on the existing wiring in the premises of Heritage Trade and Services, without written approval from SE at the same place and time.

Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan set Apr 23 for PTCM and released Mahadi on bail of RM10,000 with RM1,000 deposited in two local sureties for each charge.

Prosecuting Officer Andryero Thomas from the Energy Commission of Sabah, appeared for the prosecution.
