Four stateless Bajau Laut charged, three get bail
Kota Kinabalu: Four stateless Bajau Laut were charged separately with illegal entry into the State, with three released on bail.

Mohd Mansul Ajjili, 20, Jolina Julkipli, 21, Jay Jeriko Omar, 20, and Mohd Haykal Nukiman Zulkifli, 22, all from Semporna, pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain on Tuesday.

They were charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act for entering the State without proper documents when arrested recently in the city.

Jolina, Jay and Mohd Haykal were granted bail of RM2,000 each with one local surety and ordered to report to the Semporna Police Station monthly, while Mohd Mansul was further remanded pending documents to prove he was born in Sabah.

The court fixed April 30 for pre-trial case management, with the prosecution objecting to bail and the defence submitting statutory declarations on birthplace and arguing the charge should not apply to stateless persons.
