Kota Kinabalu: The Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) welcomed a delegation from the Asean Centre for Energy (ACE) to strengthen regional cooperation and advance the development of the Asean Power Grid (APG) initiative.
Having recently secured approximately USD4.5 million in funding from the World Bank to support Asean Member States in advancing energy connectivity projects under the APG framework, ACE is mandated to assist Member States in preparing projects to evaluate APG interconnections.
Discussions during the meeting focused on enhancing collaboration for feasibility studies and project preparation for APG interconnections, as well as developing a joint cooperation framework for long-term capacity building in Sabah.
This forms part of ACE’s broader efforts to accelerate the energy transition and improve cross-border electricity integration in the region.
ECoS Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ir. Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid, welcomed the initiative, emphasising that strengthened collaboration with regional partners is essential to supporting Sabah’s energy transition agenda and ensuring sustainable, reliable energy for the future.
Also present at the meeting were the ACE delegation led by Datuk Ir. Ts. Razib Dawood, Executive Director of ACE, ECoS officers, and representatives from Sabah Electricity led by Datuk Ir. Ts. Yaakob Jaafar, Chief Executive Officer of SE.
The engagement reflects a shared commitment between Sabah and its regional partners to strengthen energy security, promote sustainable development, and advance Asean’s collective vision for an integrated power grid.
