Kota Kinabalu: The Gudon Main Distribution Substation (PPU), which was fully completed on March 18, is set to enhance electricity supply stability in the Sepanggar area and its surroundings, said Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (Sabah Electricity) Main Project General Manager Abdul Razak Salleh.
He said the RM42 million project, which began construction on March 21, 2023, was developed to improve the reliability of the 11kV system and cater to growing energy demand in the area.
“The project was funded by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation before being handed over to Sabah Electricity,” he told reporters after visiting the facility Thursday.
He added that the project is expected to reduce the Sabah Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) by 1.47 minutes per customer, contributing to improved service reliability.
“The final phase, which involves redistributing energy loads in the surrounding areas, will be carried out soon to further ensure supply stability,” he said.
Abdul Razak said the project was implemented under the Sabah Electricity Supply Special Task Force (PPKBES).
“In addition to the Gudon PPU, several other electricity infrastructure projects in Kota Kinabalu, Keningau, Sandakan and Tawau are expected to be completed this year,” he added.
