TAWAU: A vehicle storage facility caretaker was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here on Friday with trafficking 3,071.04 grammes of syabu two weeks ago.
No plea was recorded from Hadriansyah Sabran, 41, after the charge was read before Magistrate Don Stiwin Malanjum.
Hadriansyah is accused of trafficking the drugs at the Smart Bid Auction Sdn Bhd vehicle storage facility at Lorong Yong Yuk, Jalan Sin Onn, here, at 7.30pm on March 13.
He was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and whipping of not less than 12 strokes if not sentenced to death, upon conviction.
The court fixed April 27 for further mention pending the chemist’s report on the drugs.
Pending that date, Hadriansyah was ordered remanded further, as the charge has no provision for bail.
Tawau District Police ASP Jeffrey Kadison appeared for the prosecution, while Hadriansyah was unrepresented.
Earlier reports stated that Sabah police had dismantled a drug trafficking syndicate with the seizure of more than 53kg of syabu worth RM2.65 million in three separate operations in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau.
Hadriansyah is believed to be one of five suspects arrested in connection with the case.
