LAHAD DATU: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) continues to strengthen efforts to safeguard the welfare of the people through its various agencies.
Its Minister, Nancy Shukri, said the initiatives are not limited to providing physical assistance but also include psychosocial support for individuals and families.
According to her, a range of programmes has been implemented to reach communities and assist those facing life pressures or emotional challenges.
“We believe that a prosperous society is not measured solely by economic progress, but also by emotional balance, strong family institutions and community harmony,” she said when officiating the YKN Sinar Syawal Programme and the PSSS “Sa dengar, sa tulong bahh” Outreach Programme at Masjid Nurul Jihad in Kampung Cocos.
Nancy said programmes like these demonstrate that when the government and the community work together, a more caring and supportive society can be built.
She added that the programme reflects the spirit behind the “Sa dengar, sa tulong bahh” initiative.
“When the community speaks, we listen. When the community needs help, we step forward to assist,” she said.
In conjunction with the programme, Nancy, who is also the chairperson of the Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN), presented food baskets to 100 families in the Lahad Datu area.
She said the contribution may not be large but carries meaningful value, offering relief and bringing smiles during the holy month of Ramadan as families prepare for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
During the programme, Nancy also announced grant allocations totalling RM120,000 to four recipients to support religious, community and cultural activities.
The allocations include RM10,000 for Masjid Nurul Jihad, RM10,000 for Masjid Nurul Ulum, RM50,000 for the Segama Lahad Datu Sports, Recreation and Culture Association, and RM50,000 for the Idaan Cultural Arts Association of Kampung Segama Lahad Datu.
“I hope this allocation will be fully utilised to strengthen community activities, foster closer ties among residents and preserve local cultural heritage so that it continues to thrive and be passed on to future generations,” she said.
