Elderly man burns hand escaping Tamparuli house fire

TAMPARULI: A 67-year-old man suffered burns on his right hand while trying to escape a house fire near Tamparuli Point here on Wednesday afternoon.

Tuaran Fire and Rescue Station Chief Kurong Ak Beki said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 4.21pm.

Nine firefighters were deployed to the scene together with one fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) utility vehicle.

“Upon arrival, the fire brigade found a non-permanent house about 90 per cent destroyed by the fire, while the elderly male victim sustained burns on his right hand and was given initial treatment,” he said when contacted.

The victim was later sent to Tuaran Hospital for further treatment while the fire was brought under control at 4.59pm and the operation ended at 5.41pm, with the cause of the fire and estimated losses still under investigation.
