SANDAKAN: A forest fire involving about eight acres was reported at Residensi Borneo Cove, Jalan Buli Sim-Sim, early Monday.
Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station Chief PKPgB Jimmy Lagung said the operations centre received an emergency call regarding the incident at 9.44am, after which a team from the station was deployed to the scene.
The firefighting operation involved eight personnel led by Operations Commander PBK I Chauslim Sunsubin.
Other agencies, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), were also on-site to assist. The fire affected forested land and did not involve any buildings. No casualties were reported.
Firefighters used fire beaters to control and extinguish the flames, and the fire was fully brought under control at 1.44pm.
As of now, the operation has not been officially concluded to ensure no remaining embers could reignite the fire.
The public is advised to remain cautious and avoid activities that could trigger a fire, especially during the current hot and dry weather conditions.
