Kota Kinabalu: A 31-year-old man, who was charged with committing physical sexual assault against his underage stepdaugther, was ordered to enter his defence.
Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim made the order on the accused, ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against him and called him to enter his defence against the charge.

The court fixed May 8 for the man’s defence.
The man was accused of committing the offence against the 11-year-old girl in January 2022, at 8am, in a unit of a residency area in Penampang.
The charge under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences against Children Act 2017 carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years and caning if convicted.
The prosecution had called six witnesses to testify in the trial.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ronnie Anthony prosecuted.
The accused was represented by counsel Erveana Ansari.
He was released on an extended bail.
