SANDAKAN: A bushfire involving four acres of land was reported at the Chinese cemetery area along Jalan Cecily, here, on Tuesday night.
The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call via the NG999 line at 8.55pm, before a team from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was dispatched to the scene.
Fire engines arrived at the location at 9.15pm, about five kilometres from the station, and found the fire actively spreading across the hilly cemetery area.
The firefighting operation involved 10 personnel led by Sandakan BBP Chief PKPgB Jimmy Lagung, along with Operations Commander PBK I Chauslim Sunsubin, with assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
“Extinguishing efforts were carried out using fire beaters to prevent the blaze from spreading further.
“The fire was successfully brought under control at 3.12am, and the operation was concluded one minute later,” Jimmy said.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
