Kota Kinabalu: Former Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Seri Christina Liew called on the people of Sabah to embrace the Lunar New Year as an opportunity for a “new beginning” in 2026, one that will foster a peaceful, stable, vibrant and progressive environment for the continued socio-economic growth of the state.
In her Chinese New Year message, Liew encouraged the people to set new hopes, aspirations and goals for the year ahead, urging them to be anticipatory, proactive and enterprising in line with the expectations of the Year of the Fire Horse.

“This is because the Year of the Fire Horse is expected to bring rapid change and teem with opportunities, too, according to feng shui experts. In Chinese culture, the horse symbolises the attributes of speed, physical power, strength and resilience, which translate into fast and decisive actions in addressing a particular situation amid challenges.
“In fact, it is observed that the State Government under the capable leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor adopts these good qualities as it seriously tackles current issues for long-term solutions while implementing new programmes and projects for economic transformation in the interest of the people’s well-being,” Liew said.
The new government’s post-election strategies and initiatives embody the dynamism of a horse, and it is evident in their commitment to progress and sustainable solutions for the state, she added.
