Forest fire affects eight acres in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: A forest fire covering about eight acres was reported at Residensi Borneo Cove, Jalan Buli Sim-Sim, on Monday morning.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung said the Operations Control Centre received an emergency call at 9.44am before a team from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station was deployed to the scene.

The firefighting operation involved eight personnel with assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police and the Civil Defence Force.

The fire affected a forested area without involving any structures, and no casualties were reported.

Firefighters used fire beaters to control and extinguish the blaze, which was brought under control at 1.44pm, while operations continue to ensure no remaining hotspots reignite the fire.
