SANDAKAN: A bush fire involving an area of about four acres was reported at the Chinese Cemetery area along Jalan Cecily in Sandakan on Tuesday night.

The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call via the NG999 line at 8.55pm before a team from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene.

Firefighters arrived at about 9.15pm, approximately five kilometres from the station, and found the blaze actively spreading on the hillside of the cemetery area.

The operation involved 10 personnel led by Senior Operations Commander PKPgB Jimmy Lagung and Operations Commander PBK I Chauslim Sunsubin, with assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police.

The fire was brought under control using fire beaters at 3.12am and the operation was concluded a minute later, with no casualties reported.
