Kota Kinabalu: A man died of suspected electrocution while on the rooftop of a seafood restaurant in Sepanggar on Saturday.
Acting Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman in a statement, Sunday, said investigations found no criminal elements in the incident and the case has been classified as a sudden death report.
Preliminary investigations indicated the victim had been attempting to cut electrical wiring on the restaurant rooftop when he was struck by an electric shock. Burn and scorch marks were found on the fingers of the victim’s right hand.
Syed Lot reminded the public to refrain from making speculation or spreading unverified information relating to the incident, as this could jeopardise the ongoing police investigation.
The incident came to light around 1pm on Saturday when members of the public alerted the Manggatal Police Station that a man had been found lying unconscious on top of the restaurant.
Police personnel were immediately deployed to the scene alongside officers from the Ministry of Health, the Fire and Rescue Department and Sabah Electricity for safety and follow-up action.
A medical officer pronounced the victim dead at 3.02pm.
The body has been sent for post-mortem.
