TELUPID: A 56-year-old man suffered burns to his hands in a fire involving two houses at Jalan Sapi Nangoh, Kampung Rancangan Nangoh, here, on Wednesday.

The incident, which occurred at about 8.35pm, destroyed both non-permanent houses measuring 182 square metres in total.

Beluran fire station chief Edoen Macheal said the department received an emergency call at 8.38pm via the 999 line, after which a team of nine personnel and a fire engine were dispatched to the scene, located about 99 kilometres from the station.

He said firefighting operations were carried out using water from the fire engine and a nearby open water source.

He added that the victim had been sent to a clinic by members of the public before firefighters arrived, while the blaze was brought under control at 10.40pm and operations ended at 11.42pm after ensuring there were no further dangers at the location, with police also assisting in the operation.
