TAWAU: A man who was caught driving under the influence of alcohol, was sentenced to four days’ jail and fined RM12,000 or four months’ jail. Lo Yun Kong, 49, received the sentence from Magistrate Dayang Aidaku Amira Aminuddin after he pleaded guilty to the charge against him.
The court also ordered Lo to be disqualified from driving for two years.

According to the charge sheet, Lo was found driving a car with an alcohol content of 148 milligrams (mg) per 100 millilitres (ml) of blood, exceeding the prescribed limit of 50 mg per 100 ml of blood.
He committed the offence while passing through a roadblock along Jalan Sim Hwa Seng here at 12.24am on April 25.
Lo was charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment) 2020, which carries a jail term of up two years, a fine of between RM10,000 and RM30,000, and disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence for two years, upon conviction.
In mitigation, Lo who not represented, appealed for a lighter sentence, saying he is the sole breadwinner of the family and supports his wife and seven young children.
In reply, the prosecution was conducted by Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division prosecuting officer from the Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD), ASP Joan Lee, urged the court to impose a heavy sentence on Lo as drunk driving is a serious offence that could endanger the lives of other road users.
