Nabawan folks urge repair of damaged bridge
The damaged bridge over the Sungai Pamuntarian shows visible tilting,  posing a safety risk to users.
NABAWAN: Residents of Kampung Nakuyung, Salarom Baru and Ulu Mosopoh are urging the relevant authorities to repair the Sungai Pamuntarian bridge along the Pamuntrian–Ponontomon road, which has been damaged since February.

Several residents said they hope the authorities, particularly the Public Works Department, will instruct the concessionaire responsible to repair or rebuild the bridge as it is unsafe for use.

They said road users are still forced to use the bridge as the alternative route constructed is incomplete and difficult for small vehicles to pass through.

A user who declined to be named claimed that a “bridge closed” notice placed in February had been removed and replaced with a “slow” sign, leading motorists to continue using the damaged structure despite safety concerns.

A check found the damaged bridge poses a risk to users as it has tilted, although many continue to use it due to the incomplete alternative road.

The bridge is also used daily by teachers serving at Sekolah Kebangsaan Ulu Mosopoh and students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Nabawan II.

The bridge was reported to have sustained damage early on Sunday, Feb 22, and was initially closed with warning signage before the notice was later replaced with a “slow” sign, which has caused confusion among users.

The alternative road remains muddy and unsuitable for heavy vehicles, preventing the delivery of construction materials such as bricks, sand and cement to affected villages.
