Key Blue Economy project with Kalimantan

KOTA KINABALU: A joint visit involving the Sabah Maju Jaya Government to North Kalimantan is scheduled next week to explore a project expected to have a significant impact on local communities.

Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kota Kinabalu, Noorman Effendi, said the initiative is related to the development of the blue economy between Sabah and North Kalimantan.

“This is a big project as it involves communities living along the border areas, especially those working along coastal regions.

“Those who are farmers, fishermen and those living near mangrove areas will be given training in the future.

“So, the communities in these areas will benefit economically,” he said.

He added that there are many ongoing plans and collaborations between the Indonesian Consulate and the Sabah Government, with this being one of the key projects aimed at boosting the economies of both regions.

Noorman said this during a Hari Raya Open House celebration held at his residence in Tanjung Aru on Saturday.

About the celebration, the presence of Sabah leaders at the annual Hari Raya open house hosted by Noorman who described as a great honour and a reflection of close bilateral ties.

Noorman said he was deeply honoured by the attendance of Tun Musa Aman and his wife Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, as well as Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and his wife Datin Seri Juliah Salag at the celebration.

“Their presence is a great honour to me and further strengthens the close relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia, particularly Sabah,” he said, adding that the attendance of Sabah leaders at the event underscores the strong and enduring ties between the two sides.

Noorman also said efforts would continue to ensure Indonesian citizens in Sabah conduct themselves well and contribute positively, not only to themselves but also to Indonesia and Sabah in particular.
