Kota Kinabalu: Members of the community-based Leo Club of Keningau Centennial, together with parents and members of the Lions Club of Keningau Downtown, carried out a household aid delivery to several families in Keningau.
The beneficiaries included orphaned siblings, medically vulnerable households, and differently-abled individuals.
The student members of the Leo Club, all from Keningau Vocational College (KVC), organised a donation drive for essential items, identifying families in need with help from parents and self-made female entrepreneurs Rosmah Rimin and Wilmie William, whose daughters are enrolled in KVC’s culinary arts programme.
Three families across Patikang Laut, Tuarid Taud, and Binaong villages were assisted with basic food items and specific necessities such as hygiene products and powdered milk.
The visiting party was moved by the families’ hospitality, and the Leo and Lions Club members, along with KVC staff, vowed to return and provide further assistance using their skills and available resources.
The Lions Club delegation included Alyssa Lim, 2nd Vice District Governor MD 308-A2, Joyce John Angian, and Nelson Ng, while the Leo Club president, Carl David, led the students in visiting the households alongside KVC teachers.
The initiative aimed not only to deliver essentials but also to understand the challenges faced by these households and explore sustainable ways to assist them.
KVC Director Lumang anak Lang praised the students and teachers for their effort in connecting with the local community.
He said such initiatives help students develop prosocial behaviour and raise awareness of the importance of charitable acts, while also enabling the institution to support the community effectively.
Being members of the Leo Club allowed students to engage more meaningfully with the families.
