KENINGAU: The construction of the bridge in Kampung Samalang, which has previously which is facing delays, is expected to be fully completed by the end of April this year.
Liawan Assemblyman Datuk Nik Nadzri Nik Zawawi said the appointed contractor has given an assurance to complete the project after a meeting held, recently.
According to him, he will monitor the progress of the project from time to time to ensure that the promises made by the contractor can be fulfilled.
“The contractor has promised that this bridge will be completed by the end of April at the latest. We do not want the same thing to happen again, that is why we will monitor the progress of the construction work on the bridge from week to week,” he said.
Nik Nadzri said this when met by reporters after attending a drive-thru distribution of bubur lambuk organised by the Department of National Unity and National Integration (JPNIN) Upper Interior Zone in collaboration with the Keningau District Police Headquarters at Km 2, Apin-Apin-Keningau road here.
He said when completed, the bridge would provide convenience to residents, especially in facilitating daily movement to Keningau Town.
“This project has been awaited by local residents for a long time and we hope that when completed it can be fully utilized in addition to further boosting development and economic activities of the community in this area,” he said.
Meanwhile, in the programme, some 2,000 bubur lambuk were distributed to the public passing through the route.
Chairman of the Merapok Area Neighborhood (KRT), Nichols Francis said that the programme is an annual activity organised before the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
He said that such programs not only strengthen relationships but also foster a spirit of unity among the local community.
