Kota Kinabalu: The Qhazanah Sabah Group (QSB) continues to strengthen its commitment to corporate social responsibility by channelling business zakat (tithes) amounting to RM135,000 to Sabah Zakat Centre, in addition to hosting 60 orphans in conjunction with Ramadan.
Its Chairman Tan Sri Anifah Aman said besides the business zakat from the group, their associate company Celcom Timur Sabah Sdn Bhd also contributed RM1.1 million to Sabah Zakat Centre to assist the asnaf (underprivileged).
He said the initiative reflects the group’s ongoing commitment to contributing to community wellbeing, aligning with the spirit of Ramadan which encourages Muslims to share their blessings and help those in need.
“In our pursuit of economic progress and state development, we must not forget our responsibility to society.
“The month of Ramadan reminds us of the values of humanity, compassion and the importance of sharing our sustenance with those in need,” he said at the QSB Iftar with orphans and handover of business zakat ceremony here Monday.
At the event, 60 orphans from Home Tuaran as well as Darul Yatama Yacob Khan Orphanage and Madrasah Tahfiz Association, Beaufort, were honoured as special guests.
Anifah said the presence of these children not only brightened the event but served as a reminder of the importance of love and community support in building a better future.
The event was also attended by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, QSB Chief Executive Officer Mohamad Damshal Awang Damit and Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis) President Datuk Malai Ali Malai Ahmad, among others.
