Tuaran: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SE) has contributed RM1.1 million through its wakalah zakat (tithe distribution) programme.
Of this total, RM671,000 consists of contributions for 2025, while RM481,000 is allocated for 2026 for the asnaf (underprivileged) throughout Sabah and Federal Territory of Labuan.
Its Chairman Saadiah Aziz said this effort is a vital company initiative in fulfilling its corporate social responsibility to the community.
“SE believes that zakat is not merely an obligation, but also a trust that must be channelled with full responsibility so that its benefits can be felt by those who are truly in need.
“The provision of wakalah zakat contributions by SE and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is an annual programme carried out in conjunction with the month of Ramadan, with the intention of understanding the community’s hardships in facing today’s life challenges.
“SE’s effort to give back to the community aligns with the state government’s efforts in executing responsibilities that benefit the people,” she said at the Majlis Seikhlas Budi, Sesuci Ramadan at At-Taqwa Mosque, Laya-laya Housing, here, Saturday.
Saadiah said the initiative not only helps alleviate the financial burden of the recipients but also provides encouragement and hope for the community to continue striving to improve their standard of living.
“Through the distribution of this wakalah zakat, the company strives to ensure that the assistance provided can deliver a meaningful impact to the recipients,” she said.
Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor; Tuaran MP Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau; TNB Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Razak Abdul Majid; SE Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ir Ts Mohd Yakoob Jaafar; and Tuaran District Officer Ibrahim Terki.
