Kota Kinabalu: Some 100 staff and visitors gathered at Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Dewan Sri Kinabalu for a Khatam Al-Quran ceremony and Ramadan breaking-of-fast, recently.
The ceremony was jointly organised by the Persatuan Kebajikan Islam Perubatan Sabah (Perkips) and the hospital’s Islamic Affairs Unit.
The event brought together hospital staff, department heads and guests for an evening that combined religious observance with community bonding, reinforcing what Perkips Chairman Dr ShahIskandar Sybil Syah described as the essential balance between professional duty and spiritual development.
“This Khatam Al-Quran and Ramadan Iftar will continue to serve as a platform to strengthen the bonds among hospital staff and nurture spiritual awareness through the appreciation of the Quran,” Dr ShahIskandar said.
He added that the communal breaking of fast provided hospital staff with an opportunity to strengthen ties with one another and reflect on the blessings of Ramadan.
Despite the modest scale of the event, the atmosphere was lively, with many hospital staff bringing their own dishes to share, a gesture that underscored the spirit of togetherness and teamwork among the hospital community.
The programme opened with the Khatam Al-Quran ceremony, followed by a Ramadan religious talk by guest speaker Ustaz Mohd Syahir Ismail, a religious question-and-answer session and the communal iftar.
Perkips members also distributed iftar food to hospital visitors and security personnel as a mark of appreciation for their dedication and service.
The hospital’s Director Datuk Dr Abd Kahar Abd Asis were among those present.
