KENINGAU: A new alternative route via the Kg Samalang bridge is nearing completion and is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in town, which has reached critical levels, while also improving access for rural communities in the surrounding areas.

Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, together with Liawan Assemblyman Dato’ Nik Mohd Nazri Nik Zamawi, recently made a work visit to the bridge construction site to assess the progress of the project firsthand.

During the visit, the delegation received a detailed briefing from the contractor, who confirmed that the construction has entered its final phase. Once completed, the bridge is expected to be opened to the public in the near future.

The Kg Samalang bridge is poised to enhance connectivity for local residents, particularly those in rural areas, by providing a more efficient route into Keningau town. It will also serve as a key alternative route, helping to alleviate the growing traffic congestion, especially during peak hours.

The visit underscores the ongoing commitment of leadership and relevant agencies to ensure that development projects within constituency are implemented smoothly and effectively for public benefit.

A local resident, who declined to be named, shared that while such projects may seem modest, their impact is deeply felt within the community.

“Sometimes progress comes in simple forms like a bridge that is slowly built, but brings about a big change to the future of a community,” he said, adding that rural communities closely observe who is genuinely contributing to their development.
