KENINGAU: Fire ravaged approximately four acres at Kampung Takad Apin-Apin, here, at 4.10pm, Wednesday.
Keningau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Serevinus @ Mohd Nidzam Sinkui said an emergency call was received and a team was deployed to the scene about 15km away.
“A total of eight personnel, along with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) units, were dispatched. Upon arrival, they found burning grass affecting an estimated four acres,” he said.
The fire brigade conducted a size-up assessment and proceeded with firefighting operations using fire beaters.
The fire was successfully brought under control at 5.09pm.
Serevinus said the current hot and dry weather conditions make it easier for fires to spread rapidly.
He reminded residents of Keningau and surrounding areas not to carry out open burning for land clearing, waste disposal or agricultural residue during this period.
He also advised the public not to discard cigarette butts that are still lit along roadsides, bushes, or dry grass areas.
“If you see any signs of fire or smoke in bush or forest areas, immediately report it to the Fire Department so that early action can be taken before the fire spreads and damages ecosystems and property,” he said.
