KENINGAU: A four-year-old was rescued after she got trapped inside a locked bedroom at a house in Taman Pamilan, here, on Monday.

Keningau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Severinus @ Mohd Nidzam Sainkui said they received a distress call at 10.39pm, prompting the immediate deployment of four personnel along with an Emergency Medical Rescue Services team to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the girl locked inside the room and moved quickly to free her using specialised tools to unlock the door.

The child was found safe and uninjured.

Severinus urged parents and guardians to closely monitor young children’s movements within the home at all times and to keep a spare key in an easily accessible location in the event of similar emergencies.

Earlier that same day, at 9.49am, firefighters were called to a road accident along Jalan Apin-Apin near a J&T outlet, where a motorcycle collided with a Perodua Kancil.

Arriving personnel found a male victim lying on the road shoulder, having sustained a fractured arm. He was given immediate first aid before being transported to hospital via the EMRS vehicle for further treatment.

With the festive season approaching and traffic expected to increase significantly, Severinus reminded road users to exercise caution.

“First, observe the speed limit, maintain a safe following distance, stay aware of your surroundings especially motorcyclists and plan your journey in advance,” he said.

The team had also responded earlier that morning to a report of a Spitting Cobra taking refuge in the kitchen of a home in Taman Tropikana.

Alerted at 8.48am, firefighters dispatched to the scene successfully captured the venomous snake using a specialised snare tool before releasing it safely back into its natural habitat, away from the residential area.
