Kota Kinabalu: A 51-year-old unemployed man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here with two counts of causing hurt to a man and retaining stolen property.
Kaparin Kunsin pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to both charges.
On the first count, Kaparin was accused of causing injury to one Muhammad Khairul Anwar Abdullah at 10am on March 8, in front of a 7-Eleven store in Kg Air here.
The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code provides for imprisonment of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both on conviction.
On the second count, Kaparin was alleged to have dishonestly retained a stolen sling bag belonging to the same complainant at the compound of the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters at 1.05pm on the same day.
The offence under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years, a fine, or both, on conviction.
The court set April 23 for pre-trial case management (PTCM) and released the accused on bail of RM2,200 in two sureties.
Meanwhile, a 44-year-old unemployed woman claimed trial to a charge of misappropriation of property.
Eu Siew Fung pleaded not guilty before Wan Farrah to dishonestly misappropriating RM47,553.51 belonging to BDT Trading Sdn Bhd at the company’s premises in Inanam between Dec 27, 2024 and May 12, 2025.
The offence under Section 403 of the Penal Code carries imprisonment of not less than six months and up to five years, whipping and a possible fine on conviction.
Wan Farrah fixed April 23 for PTCM and allowed bail of RM2,000 in two sureties.
In another court, a 39-year-old saleswoman also claimed trial to a similar charge.
Fatmawati Jimson, an IMM13 holder, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to dishonestly misappropriating gold jewellery belonging to one Hermah Saleh between Jan 28 and Feb 1 this year at Kg Contoh Suang Parai, Manggatal.
The jewellery comprised a 916 gold necklace, a 916 gold bracelet and a 916 gold ring with a total value of RM34,740.

Marilyn fixed April 21 for PTCM and released Fatmawati on bail of RM3,000 in two sureties, with an additional condition that she report to a police station once every two weeks.
