Shot dead – man who shot brother
Police also seized several items at the scene, including parts of the homemade firearm, ammunition, spent casings and a machete.
Kota Kinabalu: A man who shot dead his younger brother and threatened to shoot anyone who approached their house compound in Kampung Kangkawang, Tenom, on Sunday, was shot dead by the police.

In the 8am incident, the 54-year-old victim, a smallholder, was pronounced dead after sustaining eight gunshot wounds to the back.

The 57-year-old suspect was believed to have used a homemade firearm known as a bakakuk.

According to Tenom district police chief Azmir Abd Razak, police received a report about the shooting which took place in the house. They were also told that the suspect had threatened to shoot anyone who approached the area.

He said a cordon operation was launched at about 9.30am, with police issuing three orders for the suspect to surrender, all of which were ignored.

“Several rounds of tear gas were fired into the house to force the suspect out, but he remained defiant and refused to cooperate despite further attempts.

“The situation escalated when the suspect suddenly ran towards the kitchen while pointing the firearm at an officer near a side window. 

“The officer, acting in self-defence, fired three shots, hitting the suspect in the right arm, left chest area and left ribs. The suspect collapsed in the kitchen area and was pronounced dead at the scene,” Azmir said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 307 for attempted murder.
