Kota Kinabalu: State Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Julita Majungki said the Sabah State Unity Action Committee (PADUNEGERI) plays a vital role in safeguarding harmony among the State’s diverse communities.
“Platforms such as PADUNEGERI enable us to discuss issues that may arise within our communities and take proactive steps to ensure harmony and understanding continue to prevail,” she said while chairing the committee’s first meeting of the year here.
Julita said the responsibility for strengthening unity should not fall solely on the Department of National Unity and National Integration (JPNIN), calling for broader participation from across society.
“The responsibility of strengthening unity does not lie solely with one agency. It must also be supported by strategic partners, stakeholders and grassroots leadership,” she said.
She described PADUNEGERI as a forum to discuss unity-related issues, address matters emerging at the grassroots level, and recommend initiatives to further strengthen inter-community relations.
The committee draws its membership from various government agencies, relevant departments and stakeholders involved in unity initiatives, with Sabah JPNIN serving as secretariat.
Julita hopes the platform would improve inter-agency coordination and bolster efforts to preserve harmony across Sabah’s multiracial and multi-religious communities.
Also present during the meeting were the Ministry’s Assistant Minister Datuk Rina Jainal and Permanent Secretary Datuk Maria Chong, as well as Sabah JPNIN director Rina Ab Harun.
