Kota Kinabalu: The organisation of the 2026 state-level Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house is not wasteful but a meaningful initiative to provide opportunities for the public, said organising chairman Datuk Arifin Arif.
The Local Government and Housing Minister said wastefulness refers to excess, which is discouraged in all religions, stressing the importance of moderation.
He said the event instead provided an inclusive platform for orphans, the underprivileged and those from rural areas to experience the festive celebration.
Arifin said the open house also served as a unifying platform for those unable to gather on the first day of Aidilfitri, with more than 20,000 attendees exceeding expectations.
He added that the participation of 71 entrepreneurs, including 15 hotels, contributed to the event’s success while supporting local businesses and promoting unity across religion, race and politics.
