PUTATAN: Eight houses and a vehicle were damaged in a fire at Jalan Sekambu, Kampung Sekambu Petagas, here, on Friday.
The Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 2.01pm and dispatched fire engines from the Putatan, Kota Kinabalu, and Penampang stations.
The first fire engine arrived at the scene at 2.25pm after travelling about 16km from the nearest station.
Operations Commander Musran Jabri said the blaze involved eight houses of mixed semi-permanent and non-permanent structures, with several units destroyed.
Six of the houses were reported to have been 100 per cent destroyed, one house sustained about 80 per cent damage, while two others were partially affected.
He said a Perodua Kancil parked nearby was also destroyed in the fire.
“A total of 41 firefighters, assisted by 10 Community Fire Brigade members, were involved in the operation using several fire engines, water tankers, and utility vehicles,” he said.
The fire was brought under control at about 3.10pm, and the operation was fully concluded at 8.15pm, with no casualties reported.
