TAWAU: The State Government recognises the longing many students feel for their hometowns as the festive season approaches, said Assistant Community Services, Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Rina Jainal.
She said the government has introduced several initiatives – Sentosa, Subfly and Flysiswa – to help ease travel costs so that Sabahan students studying away from home can return to celebrate with their families.
According to Rina, the support reflects the State Government’s commitment to ensuring students remain focused and motivated in their studies while preparing to contribute to Sabah’s future development.
“These young Sabahans are the State’s hope. Keep studying and keep progressing. We in Sabah will always support all of you,” she said during an iftar (breaking of fast) gathering with Sabahan students held at Setia City Convention Centre in Shah Alam, Selangor on Sunday.
Rina said the event also provided an opportunity for Sabah leaders to listen to the experiences, challenges and aspirations of students pursuing their education far from home.
“It is a pleasure to meet young Sabahans who are striving in their studies away from their families. While breaking fast together, we had a relaxed conversation, listening to their stories and witnessing their determination,” she added.
The Kukusan Assemblywoman noted that such engagements are important as they help strengthen the connection between students and their home state while providing encouragement for them to continue pursuing their education.
The event included a meet-and-greet session and a group photo with the students, who also shared their experiences and challenges of studying away from their hometowns.
