Kota Kinabalu: Sabah will continue to strengthen support for entrepreneurs and young leaders through targeted initiatives and strategic collaboration, said Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick.
He said his Ministry of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport (MINDET) remains committed to nurturing business growth and leadership development, including among members of the Junior Chamber International (JCI).
“Among the key initiatives are improved access to financing, entrepreneurship training, capacity-building programmes, and strategic networking platforms with industry players and investors.
“At the same time, the ministry is also focused on enhancing market access for Sabah-based businesses, particularly by supporting local entrepreneurs to expand into international markets.
“At the same time, we are strengthening logistics and supply chain systems to facilitate smoother business operations and growth in Sabah,” he said.
Ewon who is also State Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport said this in his speech when officiating the Association of JCI Senator in the South East Asian Nations (Assean) Inc, in conjunction with installation of Assean’s first lady president and its 2026 Board of Directors’ meeting here on Friday.
He also witnessed the installation of a Sabahan woman, Patricia Poh as the 26th President of Assean and also the first woman President after 25 years.
Ewon said close collaboration between the government and organisations such as JCI is crucial in developing capable leaders and competitive entrepreneurs who can contribute meaningfully to both society and the economy.
While welcoming all regional delegates to Sabah, he hoped that such engagements would further strengthen ties among participants, rekindle friendships, and reinforce the spirit of fellowship within the Assean community.
He commended Assean members for their strong commitment in attending the board meeting, saying their presence reflected a high level of leadership and dedication within the organisation.
Ewon also noted that about 10 past presidents were present to witness the installation, describing it as a strong testament to the continued support and confidence in the association’s leadership.
“It is a pleasure to be part of this historic and memorable occasion. I extend my sincere appreciation for the kind invitation to join this significant celebration.
“I congratulate incoming president JCI Senator Patricia Poh and I have confidence in her leadership to move forward Assean Inc. I also acknowledging the contributions of outgoing president JCI Senator Theodore Garcia for his dedicated service and a successful tenure,” he said.
In closing, Ewon encouraged all members to continue working together in unity to advance the organisation’s growth and its positive impact on the wider global community.
