SIPITANG: A suspension bridge in Kampung Sindumin here was damaged following recent floods that struck the area, disrupting daily activities for nearby residents.

Former Sindumin Community Development Leader (UPPM) Wendey Agung Baruh visited the site after receiving information from the former Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Sindumin.

When contacted, Wendey said the visit was to assess the extent of the damage to the bridge, which serves as an important link between Kampung Sindumin and Kampung Luagan in the district of Sipitang.

He said the structure was badly affected by the recent floods and requires urgent repair.

“The damaged bridge has not only disrupted the daily movement of residents but has also affected schoolchildren who depend on the route to attend school.

“The matter needs the attention of the authorities as the bridge is also used by pregnant women travelling to the clinic as well as elderly residents,” he said.

According to Wendey, residents are currently forced to rely on small boats to cross the river, which has become the only means of connection between the two villages.

“This situation has made life difficult for residents who depend on the bridge as their main access route,” he added.

Wendey, who is also the Sipitang branch chief of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), said efforts are being made to raise the issue with the relevant authorities to ensure that immediate action can be taken.

He stressed that his visit was not about making promises but about understanding the challenges faced by the community and identifying the best possible solutions.

“The welfare of the community remains a priority, and the concerns and needs of the people must continue to receive attention as the well-being of the community is a shared responsibility,” he said.
