TAWAU: The number of food premises in Tawau awarded Grade A certification recorded a slight decline in 2025 compared to the previous year, when 140 premises attained the recognition.

Assistant Minister of Women, Health and Community Wellbeing Datuk Rina Jainal said that in 2025, only 127 food premises in the district achieved Grade A status.

She explained that the decrease was largely due to manpower constraints among enforcement personnel, which limited the number of premises that could be inspected and monitored.

A total of 553 licensed food premises were recorded in Tawau, divided into four operational zones. However, only 312 premises had been inspected as of 2025.
