Kota Belud fire leaves family homeless

KOTA BELUD: A family of five was left with nothing after their home was destroyed in a fire at Kampung Tagas here on Monday.

The blaze, reported at about 2.55pm, caused no injuries or fatalities among the occupants.

Tuaran Fire and Rescue Station Chief Kurong Beki said they received the emergency call at 2.58pm, dispatching a team to the scene three kilometres away.

Upon arrival, the team found the semi-permanent structure 95 per cent destroyed by the fire.

"The fire spread rapidly but all five occupants, who are a family, were reported uninjured," said Kurong.

Also destroyed in the fire were two vehicles, a Perodua Kancil and a Proton Wira, while household belongings and some personal documents belonging to the occupants could not be saved.

Kurong said firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by 3.35pm, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring homes. Operations ended at 5.50pm.

The cause of the fire and estimated losses are still under investigation.
